The long-awaited and much anticipated Wii Fit arrived today.
I must admit to a moment's smugness when I stepped on to my new friend to be told that my BMI is within the ideal range. An excellent start.
Then I had to do a little test to work out my Wii Fitness age. Oh yes. Bring it on. With a BMI within the ideal range my fitness age was certain to be equally impressive.
After a little bit of puffing and panting, under the watchful gaze of the two small people, the machine gave its verdict.
My fitness age is......
67!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sixty-seven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd have been miffed with 47, but come on, 67.
Really, someone must be having a laugh somewhere.
And it's certainly not me.
Humph, I have a little way to go yet in reaching my optimum physical condition.
Things can only get better, I guess.....

This might cheer you up...that fitness age thing is a load of hokum. It's based on how you do on two balancing exercises! How does that relate to your fitness age? Now if it measured you doing sit ups or something I could understand...
Yvonne - Thank you, my sentiments exactly. Just because I couldn't get the hang of that balancing thing, it does that to me. Mind you, I wouldn't like to put the sit ups to the test!
Oh dear - I dread to think what mine will be then - balance isn't my strong point, as my tap dancing efforts prove!
Stupid Wii-fit. It's enough to drive you to biscuits....
Nasty machine must be broken. Ask for a refund...
Mine would probably be about 167!
Oh my good Lord, I am sooo not getting one of those then. Being insulted by the kids about my parachute-harness bra then listening to the cuckoo mock me as I lumber through the woods is quite enough!
Oh no!! Sorry - I couldn't help laughing.
I so want one of those things. Stupid balancing test aside, what's your verdict?
67!!! Mine was 55 but then my daughter tipped me off that I should try to balance a little better and now it's down to 31. However, my BMI is not as it should be, unfortunately.
These things sound very bossy and just a little intimidating. What would they say if you balanced after a glass of wine or two? Just out of interest of course:-)
Your lucky - I have the BMI of a wildebeast. I'd probably have an age of 107 - eat more, exercize less!
Hello and thank you very much for your lovely comment on my blog. I'm really glad to find your blog. I'm an Edna O'Brien fan as well. I'm really pleased to find someone who likes to read the same things as me. Well done with all those short stories.
Alice
It's all your fault...I had no wish at all for a Wii Fit until I read about yours and now I really want to know what my fitness age is. And my birthday's coming up - I'll have to put in a request.
Tam - I've always wanted to be able to tap dance, but I could never get the hang of it either. It's obviously a coordination thing. I'm good at biscuits, though!
Karen - I was very tempted to send it back!
Helen - The highest you can is 99, apparently so it could have been worse.
Jen - Kids can be so cruel and that wretched cuckoo! I love to hear the cuckoo though.
Lucy - I'm probably the wrong person to ask as I've only clocked up 30 minutes so far. It's a lot of fun and has made me realise just how unfit I am. I don't know if it would do for a proper athlete like you.
Debs - See I've made you feel better, haven't I? I haven't dared try the body test again, but perhaps I will now.
Lane - You are a genius woman! I hadn't thought of that. I'm sure I will be much better after a wee tipple.
MOB - It sounds as though we belong to the same diet club. Eat more, exercise less, it's a good mantra!
Hello Alice - Thanks for coming over. A fellow Edna O'Brien fan, how lovely!
Honeysuckle - Oops sorry! But you'll be thanking me when you're glowing over your wii fit board. Really though, it's good fun. I'd recommend one, much better than humiliating yourself down the gym. You can be humiliated in the privacy of your own home!
I know just how you feel. My son has a Nintendo DS with the Brain Training package. My brain age came out as 60-something when I first tried it. After lots of goes I got it down to 27 which is pretty good, for a 42-year old!
We have a Wii and would like to get the Wii fit. But not if it tells me I'm a geriatric!
