A Room of my Own

George has gone. At last. He's moved out. Well, he and his office paraphernalia, and you would need to see his paraphernalia to believe it, have moved into the garage. So we now have a spare room which won't be very spare for long. The wallpaper's been stripped and the carpet's been ripped up and tomorrow we'll be painting it a nice deep red colour. The room which was the office will from now on be known as 'the quiet room.'

I had to stress the words 'quiet' and 'room' to Kit who I found in there today with his electric guitar and amp, swooning, 'this would make a great room for band practice.' No, no and no.

There'll be a couple of cosy armchairs, bookcases, standard lamps and, just possibly, a radio, but that's all. I can't wait!

Some good news to end the week. A short story sale to a Swedish magazine. Yay! I've been racking my brains for something suitably celebratory to say in Swedish, but have drawn a blank. Ikea or Abba really don't do it! Suggestions on a postcard please...

Congratulations on the short story sale and your quiet room! May I say how incredibly jealous I am?

Meatballs!

Your room sounds like it'll be wonderful. Take some piccies when it's finished?

Do you have a laptop - will you be able to disappear in there (and shut the door, and pretend you're out) when you want to write?

I'll have to ask my lovely Swedish dentist for some suitable salutations.

A room of your room? Oh lucky, lucky you!

Mamma Mia! That's a suitable Swedish greeting. Well if it's good enough for Freda and Agnetha it's good enough for me.

Well done again, Maddie! The quiet room sounds lovely!

"Var de/vi/du/ni är den dam toalett?" which translates to "Where are the ladies toilets?" Hmmm, might be handy I guess, if you ever get caught short in Sweden

Sally - Mamma Mia's perfect! Thank you!

TF - Your comment really made me giggle. I'll remember that phrase just in case...
